What we collect, why, and what we deliberately don't. Written to be read, not to be survived.

Who we are
ShommyX Meet is operated by ShommyX Technologies Inc., registered in the Province of Alberta, Canada, with its principal office in Calgary, AB, Canada. Questions about anything on this page go to [email protected].
What we don't do
Worth saying first, because it is the part people assume the other way round.
- We do not record your meetings. There is no recording feature. Audio and video pass through our server so it can be delivered to the other people in the room, and are never written to disk.
- Live captions never reach us. They are produced on your own device and sent straight to the other people in the meeting. We do not receive them and there is nowhere for them to be stored.
- In-meeting chat is not kept. It lives in the meeting and goes when the meeting does.
- We never see your card. Payment details are entered on Paystack's or Stripe's own pages and never touch our servers.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to advertise to you.
What we do collect
- Your account — email address, the name you choose to display, a one-way hash of your password, and a profile picture and meeting background if you set them.
- Your meetings — the title, code, schedule and settings of meetings you create.
- Who attended — the display name each person used, and when they joined and left. Hosts can see this for their own meetings; it is how the attendance list works.
- What happened in the meeting, where it is a feature — polls and their votes, questions and their upvotes, raised hands, breakout groups, and waiting-room entries.
- Invitations — the email addresses you ask us to send a meeting invitation to, and whether it was sent.
- Reports — if you report somebody in a meeting, we keep what you chose, anything you typed, the meeting it happened in, and both display names. It goes to us and not to the host, the person reported is not told, and we keep it after the meeting ends so we can act on it.
- Billing — the amount, currency, date and provider reference of payments, and whether a subscription is active. If you choose to let it renew, the provider gives us a token that lets us charge the same card again. It is not the card number and cannot be used anywhere else.
- Technical information — your IP address and browser or device type, used to keep the service up and to stop people guessing meeting codes.
Guests
Somebody can join a meeting without an account. We keep the display name they typed and their attendance for that meeting, so the host's participant list and attendance record work. We do not create an account for them and we do not ask for their email.
Your camera, microphone and screen
The app asks for your camera and microphone so you can take part in a meeting, and for your screen only at the moment you choose to share it. They are used to send live media to the other people in the room and for nothing else. You can turn either off at any time, and joining with both off is a normal way to attend.
In the Android app, a notification appears while you are in a meeting. That is Android telling you your microphone is open, and it is what allows the meeting to keep running when you switch to another app.
Meeting reminders
If you turn on reminders, we keep a notification address for that device: a token from Google (Android and most browsers), Apple (iPhone) or Mozilla (Firefox) that lets us send it a reminder shortly before a meeting you are hosting or invited to. We use it for nothing else. It is removed when you sign out on that device, when you delete your account, or when the service tells us it no longer works. Reminders are off until you turn them on, and you can block them at any time in your device or browser settings.
Who else is involved
We keep this list short on purpose. Each of these processes data only to do the job named.
- DigitalOcean — the servers this runs on.
- Resend — sends our email (sign-in confirmations, invitations, receipts).
- Google (Firebase), Apple and your browser's push service — deliver meeting reminders, if you turn them on.
- Paystack and Stripe — take payments.
- Cloudflare — sits in front of the site.
Some of these operate outside Canada, so your information may be processed in other countries under appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep it
Account information stays until you delete your account. Meetings, attendance, polls and questions stay while the meeting exists and are removed when it is deleted. Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is longer than the rest — those cannot be deleted on request.
When you delete your account we remove your personal details and keep only a minimal record that the account existed, so that a host's past attendance lists and our financial records do not silently change.
What you can ask for
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can delete your account yourself from the Account panel — it asks you to type DELETE, and it is immediate. How to delete your account sets out exactly what goes, what has to stay, and how to ask if you have already uninstalled. For anything else, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are in Canada and are not satisfied with how we have handled a request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
ShommyX Meet is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. A child may of course appear in a meeting an adult has joined — nothing about that is stored, because meetings are not recorded. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us at [email protected] and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and we will say so in the app when the change is one that matters.
